Feature Friday (April 2024) - Robert
by e3admin
Robert has been living and working in the community independently for many years now. He works as a delivery driver and attends Hedwig House programming multiple times a week as he is comfortable driving himself all over the county. He enjoys socializing with his peers, talking about sports, and going to our outings in the community. Robert started, stars in, and produces a football podcast with some friends outside of Hedwig House. Over the past few years, he has integrated that skill into volunteering for Hedwig House - he partners with Ken, a board member and volunteer, to do a weekly football class looking ahead at the matchups for the next week and keeping peers up to date on football and other sports news. They led special classes for the members for the Super Bowl and March Madness this year. Robert continues to set himself new goals, picking up new hobbies and passions, and he recently started going to open mic nights to do stand-up comedy and go cart racing. Robert, we appreciate your ongoing participation in our program, volunteering and peer to peer teaching, and all the inspiring moves that you are making!
Feature Friday (February 2024) - Jon
by e3admin
Jon has been living independently for many years and has become a very active member of the Hedwig House community. He provides companionship and support to his peers. Jon uses public transportation to get to many Hedwig House events, to get around the community, and to get to his job. He takes great pride in his employment: working 5 days a week as a crew chief at Wendy's. This October will be his 10-year work anniversary. He finds work to be a challenge at times, but overall really enjoys his job. Some of his job responsibilities include helping out with managerial tasks, filling in as needed at other locations, managing the time clock, and tracking store inventory. He wants to continue working at Wendy's and has a goal to become a restaurant manager. Jon has a strong faith that he actively fosters and which helps him cope and connect with his community. We are happy to have you as a part of Hedwig House, Jon, and also are proud of your long-term success with independent living, employment, and socialization.
Feature Friday (November 2023) - Daniel
by e3admin
Daniel recently moved apartments and has continued to thrive in the community. At his old apartment, he was constantly having issues with his landlord not properly maintaining his apartment and ignoring requests, leading to unsanitary and even unsafe living conditions. He was able lean on his supports while he found a new place for himself to live and successfully moved into a nicer and larger new apartment. Daniel lives by himself and maintains strong relationships with family and friends, inside and outside of the program. He has also been steadily working towards his goal of making healthier life choices. He started to exercise regularly and eat a balanced, nutritious diet leading to better energy, mood, and self-esteem. Daniel, we are proud of your ongoing efforts towards living well and thriving, and congratulations on your recent move! We are happy to have you as a part of the Hedwig House Community!
