Member Story: Sarah
When Sarah* first began Hedwig Houses’ Individual service, she was seeking employment opportunities. Sarah had previous experience in working in kitchens and wanted to pursue a career in the culinary arts. Sarah was very engaged in classes and her individual meetings, building and improving her skills. Sarah had practiced various work related skills such as: interviewing, resume building, filling out applications, and following up on job interviews during our individual meetings. After applying to many different jobs without success, Sarah and I discussed going back to school. Sarah decided to switch her goal domain to learning.

Sarah took initiative and enrolled herself in the POWER Program ( at Montgomery County Community College. She attended classes weekly and never missed an assignment! Before Sarah graduated from the POWER Program in December, we began to complete enrollment paperwork to register for classes part time at Montgomery County Community College.

Sarah was fully registered at Montgomery County Community College's Culinary Arts Program in January 2016.

Sarah has also been able to obtain a job as a part time cook at Friendly’s!

Sarah’s future goals include moving out of her assisted living apartment to even more independent living, completing the culinary arts program, and working as a chef.

As of February 8, 2017, Sarah is still taking classes at Montgomery County Community College and doing well!
