Sarah had previous experience in working in kitchens and wanted to pursue a career in the culinary arts. Member Story: James

Staff was completing a Member survey and learned how James* has benefitted from his time at Hedwig House:

​“James expressed he has been more social since coming to Hedwig House.  He told me that coming here gives him a purpose in life.  Before coming to Hedwig House, he used to sleep all day and now he has something to do and somewhere to go.  James told me that it has also helped him with eating more.  He stated that before coming to Hedwig House, he would eat nothing but take-out every single day (he expressed how this would become very expensive at times) and some days he just wouldn't eat at all. There were nights he just had ice tea for dinner.

Grief and loss are a normal part of the human experience. Grief and loss can come in several forms, the most obvious being the death of a friend or loved one. Loss can also come in forms of divorce, job loss, or loss of friendship. The purpose of this blog post is to take a deeper look into the death of a loved one: normative vs. prolonged grief and coping strategies.
